In normal domestic installations where the signal is weak two different types of boosters can normally be used:
A Mast Head amplifier - this is powered from an aerial point and sends a 12 volt supply up the Aerial downlead to the Amplifier and gains upto an extra 35db of Signal.
An indoor booster - Can be used to boost a signal to as many rooms as required. Some come with variable gain adjustment
